  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

This is the debut album by south Texas Indie/Alternative band From the Cocoon. The album is sprinkled with various genres like a mixtape, and took over 8 years to make. Throughout the process the band experimented with a heavier side, deep digital instrumental tracks, and some very comedic folk material but eventually found a medium tying into an alternative sound. The album features 18 original tracks, a watery cover of "Mozzarella Swastikas" by Adam Green (the Moldy Peaches) and an Acoustic/E.D.M. demo version of "Slow Show" originally by The National. The entire collection is packed full of emotion and pure soul, sure to earn its place in your music library.

Note from the the artist: These are handmade CD's Just for funsies, each CD comes two limited edition F.T.C. vinyl stickers and information about the one of a kind TRIAL BY ERROR VARIETY SHOW, the only music festival in the Texas Hill Country bringing you Dubstep, Alternative, Indie, Rap, Metal, Rock, and Folk all on ONE STAGE. This event is put on by From the Cocoon Productions, so naturally each cd comes with the goodies as well. Check out the podcast to learn more!

about

This song was inspired by a conversation my father had with me when I was 25. After basically telling me that I was fucking up as a father myself (and by that he means all the tripping on hallucinogens, sleeping around on my loyal wife, smoking way too much pot, and eventual going to jail for selling acid) he told me to make a choice. It would be the choice that defined me, a choice that would put me on the light or dark side of this whole existence. He told me to give up playing music and raise my family with a 9-5 and don't look back. That would save me. This as opposed to the other choice I had, that was to continue to play music not-so professionally, stay in association with the vices i chose to self medicate while damaging my mind, my family, and my talent with such destructive decisions, and ignoring the future that I had carved out of blood. This conversation crushed my spirits but as the world around me came crumbling down I saw who I was, and knew what I was meant to do. I became a better father that day. I gave up selling drugs, quite using so many carelessly, and even scrapped the old songs to begin writing new ones. This is the second of three songs I've written about fatherhood, and or my father. "The Carpenter" and "Play Play" touch on my perspective on that topic as well.

lyrics

Any other day I'd hide from the sun and seek the shade
Today I'll use the light to get me on my way
I've been holding back for something spectacular!
I was told my whole life to let it come to me
But I could sit and wait for a miracle or make one happen....IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!

When the sun goes down
While Im holding my crown
I will dream big so I bring it back to life

Cause it ain't about what your missing
It's about what you've got to lose
I've got a soul full of fire a hair trigger and short fuse
You didn't know you'd asked for this when you asked me to choose...
I hope you're happy now, Ive become you

Any other time I'd lied to keep mine what is mine
I might blow it off, push it down, say "Thats just fine."
I guess I've learned a little bit about treating the ones you love like shit
It comes back around even if you don't mean it!
No use for bitterness if you wander the wilderness
She'll speak kind to you if you speak back with words of LOVE

And if the sun goes down
While I'm making my rounds
I'll still dream big so I bring them back to life!

Cause it ain't about what your missing
It's about what you've got to lose
I've got a soul full of fire a hair trigger and short fuse
You didn't know you'd asked for this when you asked me to choose...
I hope you're happy now, Ive become you

YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU ASKED FOR THIS...
I'VE BECOME YOUUU...DIDNT KNOW YOU ASKED FOR THIS!
